Professor Sarah Haley’s groundbreaking book, No Mercy Here: Gender, Punishment, and the Making of Jim Crow Modernity (University of North Carolina Press, 2016), is this year’s recipient of the Sara A. Whaley Prize from the National Women’s Studies Association.   

The Whaley Prize is a prestigious and much coveted award given to the best book in any field on women and labor from an intersectional perspective.
